Situated along the Tiber river in Rome, adjacent to the Ex Mattatoio of Testaccio, the Shore of Ostiense offers a space for community gathering and connection to nature. Inspired by the ever present dichotomy between human interventions and natural forces, the project seeks to bridge the gap between everyday users and the Tiber river edge.

The project represents a public community center along the Tiber river that allows for connection with this neglected space within the city. Using the interplay of solid and void the building allows for glimpses and gaps which ultimately bring users closer to the river edge. The site of the Ex Mattatoio offered unique challenges. The building acts as a threshold between the rigidly organized grid of the former industrial site and the unkept river edge, semiotically bridging the gap between a space representing exploitation at the hands of mankind and the untamable. The Shore borders the river, while at the same time shores community engagement and connection, acting as a pillar for public life.
